THE PENTAX CALENDAR
During his lifetime, Guy Bourdin was determined for his images to only appear in fashion magazines, repeatedly declining offers of books and exhibitions. So adamant to avoid the public eye, he even declined the French government’s prestigious Grand Prix National de la Photographie.
One thing Bourdin couldn’t refuse though was the offer to shoot for the esteemed Pentax Calendar. The six Guy Bourdin photographs included in the 1980 Pentax Calendar have become some of his most iconic. With its cover designed by Mitsue Katsui, the most influential Japanese graphic designer, the calendar, like everything Bourdin touched has been elevated to fine art, making itthe rarest of treasures.
